The March 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and damage to the nuclear power plant in Fukushima left devastation in its wake. Questions rippled across all sectors of the global food industry: Is Japanese food safe? What precautionary measures have food and beverage producers been taking? How will these effect consumers around the globe and in Japan itself?
In order to address these food safety and production concerns, a trade jaunt was organized by JETRO,
the Japan External Trade Organization. Polly Legendre visited Japan in
August as part of an international group of buyers and business
representatives chosen to see the situation and meet Japanese food and
beverage producers firsthand.
